MELODY CARDS LEVEL I . INTRODUCTION TO BASIC RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN MELODIC INTERVALS, RHYTHMS AND NOTATION, WITH THE AID OF ANALYTIC TITLES
64 cards with analytic title in English and Italian. Other languages available upon request. Students work with one or two cards per game. Two series have been developed, we include the First series here. Cards are developed in 4 groups of different colors to facilitate learning activities when working with 16 cards per session.
Demonstration Sheets in large print can be prepared for each set (print out bigger).
The teacher uses the 4 sheets contained in the Teacher’s Guide for games. The Manual offers suggestions for games.

MELODY INTERPRETATION CARDS LEVEL I
Indicated as a teaching aid for children approx. ages 5 - 11.
Ideal also for general music classes and beginning choral Ensembles.

AIM
The aim of the card games is to help the young singer acquire preliminary sight singing skills in an entertaining and stimulating fashion with the aid of descriptive title phrases that analyze the brief musical examples printed on each card. Students are asked to interpret only proportionately the duration and the melodic direction of the notes in group activities.

MELODY CARDS LEVEL I (cards with Captions in English & Spanish). Available also in Korean, Italian & Japanese

64 cards with analytic title in English and Italian to print out on colored paper. Students work with one or two cards per game.

DIDACTIC CONCEPT AND GENERAL PROCEDURE
Students are asked to freely interpret high and low sounds, long and short notes as indicated on the cards. The descriptive phrase included over each motif briefly analyzes the melody and helps the student in interpreting and remembering the card. Lengths of the notes and rests need only be interpreted relatively (black notes are shorter than white ones) and Intervals are merely indicative: only the general direction of movement should be requested. Each student is expected to sing the same card differently.

TEACHING MUSIC: NEW MATERIALS
JOAN’S MAGIC MUSIC CARDS: learn music like magic - teach music like magic.
The PDF includes the Teacher's Guide for all the Music Cards (levels 1-2-3) and sheets to print out the Melody Level III cards (28 cards for 12 sets).
All cards can be laminated in durable colorful material and are intended to make learning and teaching music easy, fun, fast, imaginative, progressive and didactically flexible. Cards include a teacher’s manual with ideas and activities for classroom, ensemble or individual use based on Joan’s long experience with choral and instrumental students of all ages. Cards can be prepared according to necessity specifying quantity and level. All Levels of card sets include games that teach Ensemble music, Harmonic and Melodic Analysis and Musical Forms.

MELODY INTERPRETATION CARDS LEVEL III
Indicated as a teaching aid for children from ages 9 and up, beginning adolescents and adults.
Ideal also for general music classes, beginning choral Ensembles and solo instruction.
We include references to games included in the preceding chapters: MELODY INTERPRETATION CARDS LEVEL I & II.

AIM
The aim of these card games is to introduce basic sight singing exercises in different time and key signatures. It is not expected that the students sing all intervals and all rhythms perfectly at first reading, this can be achieved with practice. Students are asked at first to interpret only proportionately the duration and the melodic direction of the notes. Students get to visualize various rhythmic possibilities (triplets, grace notes, various rests, 64th notes, syncopation etc.) and unusual but melodic motifs. Each set presents a varied combination of intervals in the same time and key signature. In the author’s experience, a student is gradually and instinctively able to assimilate the relationships between the graphics and the sounds of various intervals if given ample opportunity to experience vocal interpretation while reading from music.

MELODY CARDS LEVEL III (sets F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, R, S, T each numbered 1 to 28)
Twelve sets of 28 different cards each set, for a total of 336 cards.
Each set is in a different meter and key signature.
Cards with like time signatures are in the same color.
Each card presents a different melodic motif of two measures.
Demonstration Sheets in large print can be prepared for each set..
The teacher uses an extra set of cards or a print-out of the pages with all the Melody III cards printed (three pages per set included in the Pdf) to guide the games.
Students generally use one card per game, complex games use more than one set together.
