Franz Liszt
Romantic
Born in 1811 in Raiding, Kingdom of Hungary, now Austria, died 1886 in Bayreuth, Germany.
Franz Liszt, eagerly supported by his father, was from his early childhood on celebrated as a prodigy on the piano. When in 1823 the family moved to Vienna, the promotion of his musical education was the main purpose. Study trips to Paris as well as concert tours through France, Switzerland and England followed
No matter how dexterous and skillful are piano performers nowadays most of them are unanimous about the unsurpassed piano techniques of Franz Liszt. Testimonials of contemporaries speak for themselves: very few concerts could cause greater excitement and furor than those of the Hungarian virtuoso. Nevertheless, his extraordinary skills did not evoke the feeling of superiority towards other composers: on the contrary, Liszt admired Paganini’s performance and this attitude took shape in his arrangements of piano caprices of the latter. Liszt’s modesty and devotion to art were manifested in his convention to teach free of charge. Yet another proof of his generosity was revealed at the time when the composer, after his homeland was inundated, gave all the money he had earned at his concerts to help people affected by the disaster. The man of a generous nature, a gifted educator and composer Franz Liszt sought for new approaches in music all his life and can serve a perfect example for pianists and music lovers all over the world as creator of wonderful and inspiring music. In our catalogue you can find numerous sheet music of the master, 1252 in total, and 1007 among those you can download free – a good collection to choose from.
