His creative work broke new ground in composition: namely Vivaldi defined the genre of concerto grosso having written about five hundred of them. Another finding of his is the traditional ternary form and besides, he is remembered for his unconventional orchestration and popularization of pizzicato.

Being also a catholic priest he couldn’t but devote his time to composing of sacred music and wrote quite a number of vocal pieces. His operas constitute a major part of his oeuvre and were in demand, but today they lack public interest. He possessed unquestionable skills of virtuoso violinist which were manifested in his compositions and his techniques of playing the violin proved to be of the highest standards.
