The organ is justly called the King of Instruments. And not at all because it weighs about 175 tons thus being the heaviest item in the theater that is movable. And even not because all of its pipes heaped up in a pile would reach six Empire State buildings. So why is that? The most complex machine in pre-Industrial epoch, the organ was first associated with Gladiatorial Games and with time has occupied its crucial place in the Catholic Liturgy. When organ and Bach met, the perfect duet was born. It was Bach who took organ composition to the height. Of course, he was not the only one to compose for organ, among other composers to include organ in their repertoire were such outstanding figures as Richard Strauss, Felix Mendelssohn, Edward Elgar, Camille Saint-Saens. In fact, the collection of music pieces for organ is the largest in classical music as such, the largest and the oldest. But classical music is not the only genre that uses the organ. It’s quite popular almost in any of them – sacred, blues, gospel, pop, jazz, even rock. You’ll hear it in works of Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, Deep Purple and others. The organ is the instrument of ice hockey and baseball, it’s the sound of soap operas and sacred service, it exists in many possible varieties – pipe, electronic, water, wave, wind and what not. All this is perhaps why the organ really is the king of instruments. For all admirers of organ music 4344 of music scores are in store at MusicaNeo.
