Out of the whole family of brass instruments tuba is the lowest-pitched and the largest one, and it also was one of the most recent instruments that joined the orchestra. Mostly serving as the bass for the section of brass instruments it is as well frequently used for instruments’ reinforcement and as a solo instrument. Not every music instrument can boast of having its own day within the year – the tuba can! The first Friday of May totally belongs to it and is celebrated by tubists and tuba-lovers internationally. Tuba’s champions list includes the names of Wagner, Mussorgsky, Shostakovich, Gershwin and many other famous composers. Despite having entered the music world through the military marching bands, tuba has also found a comfortable position in Jazz.
