An imprescriptible part of any orchestra, of all instruments cello is considered to have a sounding closest to the voice of a human. Its history began in the 16th century and though at first cello seemed a bit of an awkward instrument – long and big compared to violin – its sizes and structure gave it a pleasantly warm sounding. The versatility of cello made it quite popular throughout centuries – many sonatas and concertos were composed for it by great Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th century composers. Bach, Haydn, Schumann, Brahms, Dvorak, Rostropovich and others have wonderful pieces for this instrument in their portfolios. Cello can be heard in orchestras, string quartets (being its bass voice) and other chamber groupings.
