“Suffragette City” is a glam rock song by one of the most prominent figures in the sphere of rock music – British musician David Bowie. He first released it as part of the 1972 album titled “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” and 4 years later as a single. The song is believed to have been inspired by the American Rock’n’Roll musician known as Little Richard (particularly the distinctive piano riff of the composition). Lyrically, the single refers to Anthony Burgess’ book “A Clockwork Orange” as well as the 1971 crime film of the same name by Stanley Kubrick. “Suffragette City” did not chart when released, but it was included in numerous music compilations dedicated to Bowie and not only. Five live versions of the song were recorded.

Only after starting to play Suffragette City did I realize why Bowie called this song his all-time favourite. It's the musical embodiment of freedom itself! I think that none of his later songs gives you that great charge of carefree mood. This easy guitar score is just what's needed on my level, still a dummy, yet aspiring to take guitar more seriously soon )) I think that artists like Bowie are among the strongest reasons for people to start playing musical instruments. Oh, and Suffragette City made me also attracted to synth! what a great combo such a duo would make...
