This catchy Russian gypsy song was made popular in United States in the 1960’s by Mary Hopkin. In fact, I was often awakened by this song from our family clock radio which duly went off every morning which was my signal to get up and get ready for school. The song is gypsy like with two boldly contrasting parts, one sad and lyrical and the other energetic and rhythmic. If you contrast these two elements well your interpretation will be effective and authentic.
