A Song of praise for any season, this is one of the many Sacrae Cantiunculae composed by Claudio Monteverdi as an adolescent, still a student with Maestro Ingegneri. It can be sung by three soloists or by a three part Chorus, either SSA or SAT. The text is in Latin and written by Tommaso d'Aquino 1264 ca.
Zion, praise thy Saviour, Praise the King, the Shepherd with hymns and songs. Strive to honor him as much as possible: Because he excels all exaltation, Praise could never be sufficient. Good Shepherd, True Bread, Oh Jesus, have mercy on us: Feed us and protect us, You make us see everything good in the land of the living.
