“Kaleidoscope” is a song by Coldplay, the famous alternative rock band from Great Britain. It was released in 2015 as part of the band’s 7th album that soon became No.1 in the UK – “A Head Full of Dreams”. The song was written by the members of Coldplay – Guy Berryman, Will Champion, Jonny Buckland, and the lead vocalist Chris Martin. The production and arrangement of the composition was performed by the team of Rik Simpson and the duo Stargate who helped Coldplay with the entire album. “Kaleidoscope” is one of the shortest compositions on the album, after the instrumental piece “Colour Spectrum”. One of the reasons the song was widely discussed is the use of the vocals of the US President Barack Obama who sang the popular piece “Amazing Grace”. “Kaleidoscope” also uses as lyrics an extract from the poem by Rumi, a Persian poet whose poem “Guest House” also appears on Coldplay’s “Colour Spectrum”.

Kaleidoscope very much reminds me of another track from Coldplay's most recent album- Colour Spectrum. From the reviews of the pianist who performed one or both of these pieces, I figured that these are far from being the album's favourites. However, I do find a certain magnetism in Kaleidoscope for its atmospheric piano melody that makes the entire tune sound somewhat space-like. I know such things are perhaps not to the wider public's tastes but to me they present a bigger value than the predictable pop tunes that are so common today.
