Searching for an exquisite and beautiful song to add to the repertoire, I stumbled on this piece, and it turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. Harmony is what I value in music most: to my view, everything a song consists of should work on it; openly weak lyrics would turn me away from learning a piece in a second, even if it had an original vocal melody or something. As concerns L'heure Exquise, among weak points of this song I can think of none: a self-titled poem of Paul Verlaine was treated with rare delicacy by Poldowski in her composition. It is great luck that she set to music about twenty of these – as I really love this song, I’m going to pay closer look to them as well. And if you happen to be a pianist or singer, my friendly advice is not to pass over Poldowski’s works – they are worth it.
