This piece is set of variations on a Scottish fiddle tune which I wrote for the Scottish guitarist Ian Smith, who has subsequently recorded it. The theme was written by Nathaniel Gow, and dedicated to his father the legendary Scottish fiddler Niel Gow. The original air, which is entitled 'Niel Gow's Fiddle', is stated at the beginning of the piece, and is followed by 4 variations. It has received many performances by several guitarists, in a number of different countries, and has also been broadcast. It is suitable for concert performance.
