Cantata for solo voices (alto alone, or alto with 2 baritones for each character), chorus of three altos representing the elves, tenor recorder, alto recorder, guitar and cello (or several cellos ad lib).
The poem by Leconte de Lisle has been translated by the composer's father SN Solomons
The sound sample is partly live and partly electronic, the parts being sung by the composer and the recorder parts being played by the Norwegian recorder player Helge Oye.
