This work, commissioned by the Krakow Percussion Ensemble, opens with the famous interrupted bugle call played once every hour above the town square. Its five sections consist of three movements for orrchestra alternating with two for percussion sextet.
The huge palette of sound colors available to the many percussion instruments in common use today is featured throughout the Concerto and makes it unusually interesting.
