Here is one of the most popular versions of the well-known song “Knockin' on Heaven's Door” made by one of the world’s best-selling hard rock bands – Guns N’ Roses. The original song was composed in 1973 by the American songwriter and singer Bob Dylan. It was created for the soundtrack of the “Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid” film and was a very successful single as a result (12th on Billboard). As for Guns N’ Roses, they recorded the song a few times, the live version in 1987 and two studio versions in 1990 and 1991. Their single became the 2nd most popular track in the UK, the 1st in Ireland and the 12th in Australia. Other popular versions of “Knockin' on Heaven's Door” were made by Sandy Denny, Cold Chisel, Eric Clapton, Avril Lavigne, U2, to name just a few.

I never attributed myself to the fans of GNR but speaking of this particular song I believe they did the best job covering Bob Dylan's creation. They grabbed the core of the original and made it musically attractive for guitarists of various levels of advancement. I think a riff like like could make any kid interested in trying out the guitar, and that's a very important thing for the musician of any genre,
