Special sheet music project for academic institutions

Today, educational systems everywhere are looking for new ways of improving the educational process. It’s getting more and more difficult for schools to keep their students’ motivation and their interest high. Hardly will you meet a student or a school pupil who doesn’t have a personal computer or any similar electronic device today, which means that a, in their eyes, technically poorly-equipped library is not likely to draw them much. And when it comes to specialized music establishments
the necessity of an upgrade is especially topical. In order to help educational institutions to be in step with time and technology, MusicaNeo introduced a remarkable project – the digital sheet music archive MusicaNeo.ORG. This is a music project designed especially for academic institutions and organizations throughout the world to help simplify and modernize access to music materials, thus extending the offer of the main library.

This project was created to satisfy the music needs of all members involved in the educational process – students, staff and management. With the help of the MusicaNeo.ORG online archive, mastering music can become more effective and fun. No hassle, no paper work, pure music.

The Archive Itself

The sheet music collection of the online archive MusicaNeo.ORG comprises more than 66000 digital scores of more than 5000 composers. Those include the world’s essential classical masterpieces and at the same time quite rare music pieces. The range of scores is very broad. Basically all types of scores are present: full score or orchestral parts, music for chamber ensemble, voice and choir. The rich instrumental choice caters for virtually all musicians – 130 different music instruments are covered.

MusicaNeo has approached the safety issues with special thoughtfulness. Therefore, the sheet music gathered has been checked for possible viruses and is presented in reliable PDF format, easy to download, store and print. Taking into account the strictness of the author’s rights laws in most countries, MusicaNeo has taken care of avoiding potential copyright infringements – the scores are either fully licensed or fall under the public domain category.

Main Features & Benefits

The traditional library system has some weaknesses that deter younger generations, growing up in a world where nearly everything is available “on demand” at an instant, from being active in using its services. Unlike a classical library, the MusicaNeo online archive does not have any waiting lists and check-outs: thanks to the simultaneous access 24/7 from anywhere the students can save their time and rather focus on practicing than searching for the needed material.

Besides, hard-copy scores tend to wear off and tear after multiple usages, which means they need to be repaired. With MusicaNeo, such expenses are not needed – the digital format saves money in this sense and “releases” budget for new aquisitions.

At the same time the workload of the faculty staff does not change in the least – vice versa, staff members can benefit from the online sheet music archive, too. Librarians would not have to track students any more making sure that all ‘music books’ are returned safe and sound. The good thing about a digitalized library is its self-sufficiency: no catalogues need manual updates, no programmers’ team is needed to maintain the online library and no special software needs to be installed by students or staff.

Access Options

MusicaNeo has worked out a few types of access to the archive trying to take into account users’ needs and different levels of authorization. Every institution can choose one of the three types for getting registered at www.musicaneo.org. First of all, in case a school has its own domain, e-mail owners at such a domain can register simply with their electronic address. Then there is code-based access: a unique code is handed out, which is entered once during the registration procedure. And there is one more way to get inside the online library – that is access from the school IP address. This means that the user has to be within the walls of the school in order to use the archive.

Subscription Types

Generally, access to Musicaneo.ORG is performed on the basis of a subscription plan. There are two of them – one including maximum 3000 downloads per months and the other one – 1000 score downloads. MusicaNeo is flexible with its subscribers, individual subscription plans can be considered as well. Moreover, if a school has only a limited budget it can apply for a sponsorship program also launched by MusicaNeo. It finds sponsors worldwide that are ready to support music institutions and help finance their subscription.
