“The Pink Panther” is an instrumental music piece written by Henri Mancini as a theme for the film “The Pink Panther” (1963). It is part of the film’s soundtrack and was also released as a single in the USA in 1964. The tune became really popular, especially in the US; it won three Grammies and was nominated for Best Original Score (Academy Award). There were a few other versions to follow, but the original composition is in E minor, it is noted for the unusual chromaticism coming from the gypsy scale. The tenor saxophone recorded for the theme was played by Plas Johnson. The animated Pink Panther character created for the opening credits moves right in time to the tune.

I never took The Pink Panther's theme serious until last week when I listened to the entire tune , by chance. My first thought was 'what a fool I've been for missing this unique music work!" I have no got the score and am ready to create something else from this universal composition. Just look at these lovely laid-out chords and the harmonies, no wonder that the arrangements are plentiful! I am so excited to start working at my pink panther now. The great Henry Mancini, sorry for underestimating you.

Now I've realized that it does remind me of the gypsy music composing somehow, what a discovery

Henry Mancini was an Exquisite genius of high order. This them is one of those classics that will hardly be ever topped or shaded by anything of the 'contemporary'
