“Mean To Me” is a very popular song that became a jazz standard since its publishing in 1929. The original music was composed by the American composer-songwriter Fred E. Ahlert while the lyrics were written by Roy Turk. The very first singer to record the song was Annette Hanshaw. Since that time numerous artists presented their own versions. Among the most well-known artists who recorded “Mean To Me” are Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Betty Carter, Ella Fitzgerald, Chet Baker, and many other famous musicians.

Ein unvergleichliches Prunkstück. Bin absoluter Fan von Annette Hanshaws Version. Wunderbare Stimme, fabelhafte Musik, schöner Text. Ich habe diese Komposition vor Jahren gehört und bis heute gehört sie zu meinen Lieblingsliedern.

This song s one of the best for covering, imho. And of covers there have ever been recorded, Sarah Vaughan's the best I think.
