Galanteries: two gavottes
Gigue
The Sixth Suite was written fo a higher register than the five other suites and requires altissimo up to high E.

This expansive Prelude in 12/8 meter is the longest of the six. It is characterized by the driving motion of the quaver rhythms and features two semiquaver passages and utilizes the fretboard from first to twelfth positions.

Performance notes.this Allemande features wide intervallic leaps, semiquaver passages and chordal punctuations, using the fretboard from 1st to 9th positions. It is the longest of the movements of any of the suites.This was originally written as an Adagio where a quaver=54 and using 64th notes. To facilitate easier reading,this arrangement has a crotchet=54, with the shortest rhythmic unit being a 32nd note.

Beautiful slow moving chord melody. The most harmonically rich movement of all the suites. The challenge is to connect the voicings as they move from one chord to the next, whilst maintaining the 'singing' nature of the melody. An opportunity to feature the rich low resonances of the instrument.

Performance notes.Lively and energetic, this is well suited to finger style playing. It is arranged in 2nd position but with frequent use of open strings. It features a beautifully harmonized melody,punctuated with double stops and chords. The 2nd gavotte features a section using an open D pedal.
