“I Wanna Talk About Me” is a country rap song recorded by the popular American singer Toby Keith. It was written by the American songwriter Bobby Braddock and released in 2001 as a single and part of Keith’ 6th album “Pull My Chain”. Lyrically, the song draws an image of a man’s frustration about endlessly having to talk about his girlfriend. “I like talking about you, you, you, you usually, but occasionally I want to talk about me” – the main character complains. The composition is very upbeat and rhythmic, which is why it is characterized as country rap. It was, however, the main reason why the song was not included into Blake Shelton’s first album, like it had been intended by Bobby Braddock when he wrote it. The record label feared it would be too risky and ‘not quite country-like’, and the audience would not appreciate a country album like that. It worked with Toby Keith, though. Due to his charisma and the fun nature of the composition, his recording of “I Wanna Talk about Me” got the number one of the Hot Country Singles by Billboard, becoming Keith’ 7th single in the first position there. I like to play the song exactly because it's NOT like a classical country composition. I'm not a fan-fan of rap music either but somehow I found this combination work nicely in here. It is a perfect play-around for guitar in a company of close friends, just for fun, to warm up the audience and have a heartful laugh, you know. Love it.
