"Elegy 2", is a direct result of my intensive studies of different contemporary styles of music. This composition is a direct influence from minimalist music although I am no minimalist. There is a constant quaver movement throughout the piece, with very little changes. I wanted to write something monotone, under a simple lyrical tune. This piece is not spontaneously written. The idea developed gradually over some months. "Elegy" is a serious composition, but with a positive middle section which points to a positive happy future. Although at the time one might feel sad, and the need to lament a loss, there is a positive element of a better time ahead. This is the idea that I have tried to realise in my composition. © Sonja
