Composition notes:
The scoring for an ensemble of 5 - trombone, violin, viola, cello and double bass - would have naturally entitled the work 'Quintet'. But interestingly, the work quotes, adapts and transforms stylistic materials from the works of 4 different composers in the work. This results in a poly-stylistic compositional quintet influenced by 5 musical personalities, which unfolds as a single movement with a scherzo-like quality and jerky forward-movement, shaped by busy interweaving polyphonic voices.
