Arrangement by concert pianist and composer Daniela Mastrandrea of my "Sweet Suite" - a four movement sequence originally written for string quintet.
The piano version is fairly difficult and requires large stretches at times, but for those who like a challenge it is well worth it.
The original stories behind the movements are:
1. Marie for shame (4' 30'') - based on a setting of the poem Maries vous estes paresseuse - Marie for shame to keep a-bed too long, you must get up and enjoy life.
2. Nocturne (2' 50'') is basically a segue to the first movement, in which Marie yawns and goes back to bed! The harmonies are rich and yet somnolent.
3. Camp David (4' 10'') is a sprightly number based on the Yiddish folksong Ikh bin a meidel in de joren - I am a maiden come of age and I am looking for a husband.
4. Blue Boar Blue (3' 30'') is based on a poem by a friend stuck studying in his college room (Blue Boar Quad at Christ Church Oxford) but dreaming of sunny outings to the river and punting.
This is the complete sequence - total length about 15 minutes. Separate movements are also available on musicaneo.

It is a "gather ye rosebuds" type of poem in which he berates his girlfriend for staying in bed too long instead of getting up and enjoying life while she is still young.
This is an alto and cello version, specifically requested, of the original alto and guitar version.

Arrangement by concert pianist and composer Daniela Mastrandrea of my "Sweet Suite" - a four movement sequence originally written for string quintet.
The piano version is fairly difficult and requires large stretches at times, but for those who like a challenge it is well worth it.
The original stories behind the movements are:
1. Marie for shame (4' 30'') - based on a setting of the poem Maries vous estes paresseuse - Marie for shame to keep a-bed too long, you must get up and enjoy life.
2. Nocturne (2' 50'') is basically a segue to the first movement, in which Marie yawns and goes back to bed! The harmonies are rich and yet somnolent.
3. Camp David (4' 10'') is a sprightly number based on the Yiddish folksong Ikh bin a meidel in de joren - I am a maiden come of age and I am looking for a husband.
4. Blue Boar Blue (3' 30'') is based on a poem by a friend stuck studying in his college room (Blue Boar Quad at Christ Church Oxford) but dreaming of sunny outings to the river and punting.

It was arranged by special request. It is lower than the original version and contains a more varied range of clarinets.
For quintets who have Bass clarinet without the lower notes of a C Bass I have included an "octave up" option as small notes in the relevant bars

This is the original song on which my other versions of Blue Boar Blue (string quintet, piano two hands and piano four hands)
are based.
The poem by Mark Haviland relates how he is stuck indoors (in his room in Blue Boar Quad at Oxford University) studying instead of enjoying the summer weather out on the river punting with his girlfriend, whom he awaits with impatience.
The sound sample is my original performance (although I recorded the guitar break at a different time and
on a different machine, hence the somewhat different acoustic properties in that section).
