This is a moderately contemporary setting of a famous Italian Lullay "Let's go to sleep" from Tuscany. It is set for 3 women's or children's voices, SMA or SSA. It can be sung also by Soprano - Alto - Tenor voices. It's in the original Italian text and includes the poetry on the pdf. It can be performed by 3 part choir or 3 soloists.
This is a lullaby sung by a mother to her new born baby girl. She has made fine
linens and soft covers for her crib, she sings that the baby belongs to everyone
in the family and goes on to list her menu for dinner. The family is poor and the
mother asks herself if she'll sell the baby girl or keep her and married her off
when she grows up. She then describes the menu of the wedding ceremony.
FACCIAM LA NINNA NANNA - LET’S GO TO SLEEP
(A TRADITIONAL ITALIAN LULLABY)
1. Facciam la ninna nanna mia bambina, (Facciamo)
il letto te l’ho fatto di viole
e le lenzola son di seta fina, (lenzuola)
il copripiè di penne di pavone.
(Refrain) Fa’ la ninna, fa’ la nanna, la bambina l’è della mamma,
della mamma e della nonna e d’i’ babbo quando ritorna;
della mamma e della zia e se ‘un dorme la portan via.
2. Per cena voglio fare le frittelle,
mi mancan l’olio, il sale, la farina; (mancano)
e poi che mancan tante bagatelle,
voglio tirare i’ collo alla gallina. . . .Refrain
(Canon) Ninna nanna culla culla
oggi è nata una fanciulla
senza dote e senza nulla,
e che cosa se n’ha fare?
Che s’ha vendere o a maritare.
Che faremo per le nozze?
Un bel piatto di mele cotte,
mele cotte in fricandò,
e la bimba ‘addormentò.
