This is the second piece in the suite for two guitars, Gone to Portugal. Punto de Sagres is the most south-westerly point of Europe, and it is where the voyages of exploration started out as 15th Century Portugal looked for routes to the Indies.
This piece has a hypnotic quality. There is a dream of distant places, a gradually increasing oppressive heat that brings everything almost to a standstill in the midday sun, mirages flitter across the ocean. The guitars can explore tonal variations by using different parts of the strings, from soft and warm to harsh and bright.
