A Million Numbered Streets was composed for oboist Robert Botti for Vox Novus Composer’s Voice 15 Minutes of Fame project. In Mr. Botti’s call for scores, he requested oboe solo works which were dedicated to New York City as it was premiered at the International Double Reed Society Convention in New York City. Nash discovered nearly 1,000 songs dedicated to NYC during his prior research and many of those same songs were titled after numbered streets, hence Nash’s title A Million Numbered Streets. Nash’s creation employs a medium-fast highly syncopated song-like melody, alluding to a restless and busy NYC street.
