The title was inspired by the location of the Geelvinck House, in the city of Amsterdam, which itself has a hortus conclusus, an enclosed garden. When you consult the free encyclopedia, you'll find some fascinating interpretations and meanings. In terms of music style, I would consider it a compliment if someone noticed a relationship with Janacek's language. Metaphorically Hortus Conclususis is the title of the last of 32 books by the German writer J.S.Schneiderfranken; and it refers to the interior space of reader and listener. NB The piece has been released on the CD Pinnacle on the Navona Records label (NV6022). And streaming on Spotify and so on.
