The Valley Spirit Never Dies was composed as a contribution to the Calefax Composition Contest in November 2013 for oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, bass clarinet and bassoon. It was inspired by the text of Chapter 6 of the Dao De Djing of Lao Tze.
