For soprano voice and piano, Valzer is subtitled, The Encore to End All Encores. It was written for a recital series on emergency notice for Barbara Wester Skipworth. The piece references over 25 operatic and art song fragments, and at the premiere performance, the audience was invited to name all 25, with a steak dinner in the balance. Noted musicologist and friend of the composer, Rheinhard Pauly, was present, and succeeded in naming all. Therefore, you are cautioned to make such offers carefully.
