This is one of the many "Sacrae Cantiunculae" dedicated to the Christmas story. It can be performed by three soloists or 3 part chorus, SSA or SAT. It is a youthful work of Claudio Monteverdi, he was an adolescent student when he composed many Short Sacred motets for his teacher, Ingegneri. The scores of the 16th c. vocal music were mostly written with one flat, but they are modal. This score is based on the Dorian Mode, transported to G. I shall click on F major since it has one flat in the score, but it is actually in Dorian Mode.
This is the text from the book of Luke Today Christ is born, today the Savior has appeared. Today, the Angels sing, the Archangels rejoice. Today the righteous rejoice saying: Glory to God in the highest. Halleluia.(Alleluia)
