Of Songs and Swirls: Four Lyric Pieces (2002) for soprano saxophone and piano were written for and are dedicated to saxophonist Paul Wehage and pianist Moyuru Maeda. The work was commissioned by Maurice and Amy Katz.
The four works are short lyrical movements that focus on the singing qualities of the saxophone. Each movement has a title that provided the poetic image for it.
