Ave Maria (Ellens Gesang III, D839, Op. 52 No. 6) wurde 1825 von Franz Schubert komponiert. Das Stück wurde als Teil eines Liedes aus Walter Scotts epischer Dichtung "Die Dame vom See" geschaffen, die ins Deutsche von Adam Storck (1780-1822) übersetzt wurde. Daher ist es ein integraler Bestandteil von Schuberts Liederzyklus für "Fräulein vom See", basierend auf "Die Dame vom See".
Die Bearbeitung stammt von Welligton Sousa und ist für Streichorchester und Solo (in verschiedenen Transpositionen) in der Tonart G konzipiert. Darüber hinaus wurde eine rhythmische Anpassung vorgenommen, bei der Sechzehntelnoten in einem 12/8-Takt durch Achtelnoten ersetzt wurden, um die Lesbarkeit für die Musiker zu verbessern. Diese exquisite Interpretation eignet sich auch für ein Streichquartett. Darüber hinaus erweist sich diese Anordnung als hervorragende Wahl für verschiedene Anlässe wie Ostern, Muttertag, Weihnachten, Hochzeiten und andere religiöse Veranstaltungen. Ihre eindringlichen und zeitlosen Qualitäten machen sie zu einer vielseitigen und bezaubernden Ergänzung zu Konzerten, die bedeutende Momente und Traditionen feiern.
