This is an adaptation of the popular Ave Maria text on music by G. B. Palestrina, one of the most famous Renaissance Italian composers. His polyphony is so perfect and it just seemed a shame not to present it more often but maybe not every occasion permits a performance of a large sacred collection used for liturgy. This excerpt is from a much longer work, a Magnificat from Volume Three of a collection of Magnificats. The music is exactly as written by Palestrina, only a few rhythms have been adapted to fit the new text. It has now become a motet that can be performed either during liturgical moments or on a concert program.
