This short prelude is an exercise in expressive playing. A typical performance should last between two and three minutes. It is in imitation of the methods developed by Couperin, and should be played as if from the French Baroque era. All chords must be presented broken, and the player may take their time with phrases. At some points, the note value is mere direction rather than rule. Time and pulse is nonexistent in this prelude.
