Domenico Cimarosa (1749-1801), a well known Italian composer of over 60 operas, understandably was busy in that arena but did manage to compose around 80 works for keyboard. These works were unknown until 1924 when a musicologist named Boghen discovered two books in the Instituto Musicale ‘Luigi Cherubini’ in Florence. As can be expected in these circumstances, it has taken some time for his keyboard works to be published and authenticated and the work is not yet complete. It has been understood that a common practice of the time was to group them in groups of three related works. The arranger has chosen these three sonatas as a possible performance group. The Eb sonata has been transposed to G major with the original G minor sonata as a centerpiece. A number of other Cimarosa works have been arranged for guitar and I hope to add to the tradition. The Sonatas are “Andantino-C.37”, “Andantino-C.52” and “Allegro C.53”.
