The piece is written for piano, though there is always scope for the piece to be orchestrated.
'Ahead' was developed from a recording of a spontanious piano piece of mine. The result was music which, like the original, has something of a nautical flavour - I visualised freedom, but in order to get to it I must endure storms in life. The piece ends with a return to the starting theme, this was to sybolise victory of a sort, a personal goal maybe.
