Scene context: This is the opening song of the musical. It outlines the points where the myths are meeting. Persephone has just been kidnapped by Hades, Icarus has just flown too close to the sun, melting the wings his father made, and plummeting to his death, Prometheus is being punished for stealing fire from the gods and Heracles is setting off on the first of the twelve tasks.

Prometheus solo from Olympus the Musical
Scene context: Prometheus has been released from his eternal punishment and has made his way to Mount Olympus to bargain with Zeus, who has his own hands full: the outraged Demeter has just gone on strike due to his patronizing treatment. This isn’t the first time Prometheus, a trickster but also a Titan with conscience, has experienced the gods’ selfish ways. Since the gods only seem to understand entertainment of sorts, Prometheus himself entertains to expose the gods for what they truly are.

This piece has many musical themes which sometimes intertwine with themes from elsewhere in the musical.
Scene context: Above ground, Demeter, on strike, has been disguised in a Greek village. In an attempt to ease their suffering because of no crops -- she has tried to give immortality to one of the boys of the village, but it all goes awry. Demeter reprimands the people for their lack of faith. Demeter, joined by Heracles, Prometheus and Daedallus, all have differing views of immortality, which are shared and debated as the villagers chant of their motivations, too.

Persephone and Demeter duet with Hades cameo from Olympus the Musical
Scene context: Persephone has been set free at Zeus’ command and is reunited with her mother. The two sing of the happiness they feel at being together once again. However, Persephone also tries to warn of the evil twist that awaits, while her blissful mother is oblivious. Persephone ate the food of the underworld so that she would have to return and help Icarus, and Hades arrives to enforce the consequence of her decision.

Icarus and Daedallus duet from Olympus the Musical
Scene context: Daedallus is in deep sorrow over being the cause of his son’s death. Icarus knows Daedallus desparately needs forgiveness, and because Icarus has escaped to the land of the living, he has the opportunity to offer his father that forgiveness. Sadly, Daedallus cannot hear a dead man’s words or even see the ghost of his son, and is reduced to singing of his sorrow only to the wind. Equally tragic, Icarus, actually present but not observable by Daedallus because he is a ghost, sings to his father, trying, but in vain, to soothe his pain.

Scene context: Persephone and Icarus are back in the Underworld with Hades, Daedalus has made his monument to Heracles, Heracles has finished his twelve tasks, Demeter is allowed to see her daughter for part of the year and must spend the rest on Olympus and Prometheus is now immortal and free to do as he wishes. Things may not all be wrapped up for the better but they’ve come to some sort of conclusion and many of the characters have matured through the process. The only question left on everyone’s mind, each with a unique perspective, is who was truly a hero?
