Ninja Quest is inspired by the composer's love for martial arts films. The work is programmatic, depicting the graceful ferocity of a lone ninja warrior on one of his many dangerous missions in the shadows of darkness. Students are encouraged to imagine their own scenarios and stories about the ninja warrior. The tom toms and bass drum are intended to simulate the sounds of Japanese taiko drumming. With a limited range of pitches, this exciting work is very accessible and may be performed by students in their 1st or 2nd year of instruction.
