Joseph Hasper is an American composer who works in a post-modern style with distinct jazz influences. His works have been performed by large and small ensembles in over 37 countries, including the Holland Symphony Orchestra, Carolina Cool Jazz Orchestra, Oklahoma School of Dance, Newburg Symphony, Coachella Valley Symphony, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Izmir Youth Orchestra, and countless other professional and educational ensembles.

Among his most celebrated works are interactive and multimedia works such as WaTER Dance (for six dancers, six musicians, and interactive electronics), Movie Music (for any number of musicians, dancers, and live painters), and his ballet pieces Hope Dance, ABC Dance, and Les Jongleurs.

His awards include Honorable Mention in the 2015 University of North Carolina 360° Jazz Initiative, finalist in the 2013 Texas Small School Band Association Composition Competition, winner of the 2012 Anton Stadler Composition Competition, and Four Star Composers Award from the National Federation of Music Clubs. He was a guest composer at the 2012 Fresno New Music Festival, and has received grants from New Music USA Composer’s Assistance Program, the Robberson Fund, University of Oklahoma Graduate Research Program, and Weitzenhoffer College of Fine Arts.

Joseph’s teachers include Leonardo Balada and Marilyn Taft Thomas (Carnegie Mellon University), Marvin Lamb and Konstantinos Karathanasis (University of Oklahoma), and Rich Shemeira and Phil Markowitz (Mannes College of Music). After teaching graduate and undergraduate courses at Cameron University, the University of Oklahoma, Shippensburg University, and Kutztown University, in 2017 Dr. Hasper was appointed Associate Professor of Music at Grove City College. His duties at Grove City include teaching theory and composition classes as well as leading the college’s jazz program.
