This cycle by Huber, consisting of three pieces, is one of the author's earlier works. The three pieces, under equal titles - «Melodies» - are quite different by means of musical expressiveness, and in their content. Each of the pieces is written in the compound form, connecting contrasting parts. Scherzo and lyrical images, impulse full of despair and serenity, ferociousness, severe principle and a joyousness, as well as lofty dream are in a direct comparison here. Although the pieces belong to the early works, they are rather difficult technically. However, the vivid picturesqueness and the inner integrity make them worthy of a first-class performer who wants to show the audience his virtuosity.

Melody No.1 is a piano piece written in compound binary form consisting of two ternaries (ABA1B1). The author uses here such methods of composition as double notes, octave doublings, virtuoso passages, dense texture. During the piece the key changes from c-sharp minor – a-flat major – c-sharp minor – d-flat major -and again c-sharp minor. Additionally a change of time signature occurs as well.

The piece is written in the arch form (ABCB1A1), which parts have either a binary or a ternary form, or a period. According to its form the piece is full of contrasting images, methods of composition, means of musical expression, tempos. The piece is unusually rich and powerful thanks to the inclusion of the extreme registers, the use of arpeggiato, the repeated notes in the middle voice, the combination of staccato and legato and the mismatch of the phrasing moments in the parts for the left and for the right hands, the comparison of polar images (a violent, furious burst and a joyous lyrical parts a hint of scherzo, partly of satire and a flight of imagination and dreams). Despite the technical difficulties that may arise practicing the work, it has a special attraction and a unique character.
