“Go Rest High on That Mountain” is a country song written and performed by the American songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and singer Vincent Grant Gill, better known as Vince Gill. It was recorded in 1994 for his 6th album titled “When Love Finds You” and later in 1995 also released as a single. It is a eulogic ballad Vince wrote after the deaths of his brother and the country singer Keith Whitley. The song was positively reviewed by the critics and charted successfully in the US (Billboard Hot Country Singles) and Canada. It received two Grammy Awards and became 1996 Song of the Year at the CMA. In 1997, “Go Rest High on That Mountain” was called the Most-Performed Song by BMI. The original recording includes the vocals by country artists Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless. The live duet of Gill and Loveless in 2013 is believed to be one of the most emotional performances of this composition. Other singles by Vince Gill include “You Better Think Twice”, “Whenever You Come Around”, “High Lonesome Sound” and a few more.

Even though this song is technically a eulogic piece that would sound the most suitable and related on a funeral ceremony, I see it as a lovely slow-paced Bluegrass composition that could be beautifully performed out of the context it was written in. Vince Gill is a great and versatile Country artists and his music can be interpreted in a number of ways. As for the sheets, the melody flows light and the vocalist has no problem following the score. Thank you.
