A selection from the collection of Christian Morgenstern for wind quintet and narrator (optional)
„Im ächten Manne ist ein Kind versteckt: das will spielen.“
(Nietzsche)
Under this motto, Christian Morgenstern wrote in 1895 a series of form and content, child-like poems, which met with great enthusiasm among listeners and readers.
His unique poems are witty, funny and playful, but also melancholy and sensual.
Five of them were set to music in this sense, a work for wind quintet:
• Das Mondschaf
• Das Knie
• Die zwei Wurzeln
• Der Seufzer
• Der Lattenzaun
“Galgenlieder” can be performed either with or without narrator.
