In 2007, after nine years of applying for tickets, my wife and I at last achieved a lifelong ambition to visit Bayreuth to hear Wagner's music in his own opera house. Everything you hear about the experience is true - and more. Mahler was quite right when he said the experience will live with you for the rest of your days. It also means that you must preface your comments with the title of this song, and give your friends, if they are to remain your friends, the option of escaping before you begin your reminiscences!
