Commissioned by the South Seattle College Community Choir, "The Snow Queen" is part of a song cycle about the season of winter, with lyrics by AnnMarie Clayton and music by Bronwyn Edwards.
"The Snow Queen" is part of a song cycle about the season of winter, with lyrics by AnnMarie Clayton and music by Bronwyn Edwards.
Short in duration (just under 1 minute 30 seconds), "The Snow Queen" has the potential for some humor. The Snow Queen (portrayed in 3-part harmony by the Sopranos and Altos) is bored. She sighs lot, musically. Attempts to make her laugh by Jack Frost, the queen's jester (portrayed by the Tenors and Basses), may become more successful throughout the piece, depending on the additional giggles and laughter which add to the fun.
