New Music for String Quartet. In this piece all of the instruments have solos, and the Viola is featured. The Viola part is quite challenging. Using Polytonal harmony, different melodic passages are passed through the instruments while the other three players provide constantly changing accompaniments. There are frequent meter changes and it is not really written as an introduction to that concept; hence the designation that it is for more advanced players. Techniques such as pizzicato and artifical harmonics are used, but sparingly for contrast. This is more of a recital piece, not really a background or "reception" piece.

New Music for Sax Quartet. This piece has been reworked and transposed since the first draft. It is for more advanced players and does require some playing in the high registers. All of the players have solos, and in this "toccatina" the solos are based on the same theme, instead of quasi-improvisational passages like the others in this series. There are passages that require strict rhythymic accuracy and a bit of scherzo at the conclusion. The piece is openly influenced by the style of Frank Zappa.
