In the same way that Charles Gounod added a new melody to an existing Bach Prelude to create his "Ave Maria," I have composed obbligato melodies for two more of the Preludes from Book I of the Well-Tempered Clavier: No. 5 in D Major and No. 20 in A Minor.
Unlike Gounod's tune, however, these obbligati have no texts, and are better suited to treble instruments than voice. The D Major obbligato is playable by violin, flute, oboe, clarinet, or soprano saxophone; and the A Minor obbligato is playable by violin, clarinet, or soprano sax. (In the accompanying sound files, the Preludes were played on an acoustic piano and the obbligati on a synthesizer.)
Parts in C and B-flat are provided for both obbligati, and as a bonus, scores for the original Bach Preludes are also included -- all for the "low, low price" of 5 dollars!
