This is a simplified setting of G. Palestrina's Motet "Pueri Hebraeorum" for equal voices originally set for SSAA - SSAT. The 2 voices (Sop - Sop / Sop - Alto / Sop - Tenor) are accompanied by the organ or other keyboard. Text is in Latin. The melodies comprise the important motifs presented in the original motet, and are not simply the upper two voices copied over. The setting has tried to simplify the music for church or school necessities without annulling the original intent of the author. A translation of the text in English is the following: "The Hebrew children bearing olive branches, went forth to meet the Lord, crying out and saying: Hosanna in the highest".

This is the original version for equal voices as written by G.P. da Palestrina. One must remember that up to the 16th century, composers wrote in the early modes which basically contained no sharps or flats in the key signature, except for Lydian mode (F scale) which quickly lost it's B natural and took on the B flat as a fixed note. The C scale is in effect a transposition of the F mode with the Bb included. The modes contained relative intervals and were sung on various pitches, therefore although this score is rewritten in Aflat major, it can easily be imagined that was sung in that key in Palestrina's times. The text is adapt for Palm Sunday processional: A translation of the text in English is the following: "The Hebrew children bearing olive branches, went forth to meet the Lord, crying out and saying: Hosanna in the highest".
