The title of the composition is derived from it having been originally written for English hornist Claire Chenette of the Knoxville, TN Symphony Orchestra and Queen City of the Mountains is one of the nicknames for Knoxville, TN. Marked “Playful, Dance-like”, Queen City of the Mountains Waltz is a 3-minute musical work for English horn solo in triple meter. Mostly in G major modality and a ternary design, it has highly syncopated rhythms, consisting of mostly eighth and sixteenth notes, with a few instances of sixteenth note triplet figures.
