Composed for a concert at Trinity Chamber Concerts in Berkeley, California with the Bay Wind Quintet and pianst Ken Durling.
Composed in 1987 and revised in March 2012, Fanfare, Op. 29b is a short, vibrant work by Richard O. Burdick for flute, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon (with A extension). At just 1:45 in duration, the piece captures the essence of a traditional fanfare — bold, ceremonial, and full of forward energy — while exploiting the bright, agile timbres of the woodwind quartet. The music features crisp rhythmic gestures and effective instrumental dialogue, making it a practical and engaging addition to recitals, chamber programs, or ceremonial occasions. An alternate scoring for brass quartet is also available. Published by I Ching Music. A free study score is available upon request via the composer’s website. Would you like a shorter one-sentence version (for quick use), a more formal/ceremonial tone, or any emphasis on the revision year or alternate brass version? Let me know if you'd like adjustments!
