On Phoenix Terrace is an ancient Chinese poem written by Li Bai in Tang Dynasty. The poem depicts the scene viewed by the poet on the terrace, lamenting phoenix has gone while yet still rolling on rivers. All the various palaces as well as natures including mountains, stream and sun seem to be blurred and unobservable. The poet feels sorrow as he cannot see the imperial court.
The piece expresses my feeling towards the poem and the music begins with xiao solo, juxtaposing soon with the piano part, imagining the poet walks up to the terrace. The central section symbolizes the phoenix while the end of the piece portrays the vision of the poet---everything out of his sights saddens his heart. Generally speaking, various Chinese colors are involved, blending with atonalized materials generating my particular recent stylistic sound.
